Job Description

  • Salary: £74,000 to £77,000 depending on experience (Band 4)

Our first shop opened in 1981 in Penzance, selling durable clothing to artists and mariners. Today, we’re a modern, data-enabled omnichannel retailer with a growing international presence. We blend heritage with innovation, designing timeliness clothing made from responsibility sourced fabrics, and using technology to improve how we operate, grow and serve customers.

As we scale in the UK and internationally (primarily through third-party partnerships), we’re investing in data, systems and digital capability to support our people and our growth. It’s an exciting time to join us!

As the Head of Data & Analytics, you will lead the vision, strategy, architecture, governance, and delivery of data services across Seasalt. Overseeing the data engineering and analytics teams, you’ll ensure data is an enabler of innovation, decision-making, and commercial success in a fast-paced fashion retail environment.

This role will drive the development of a modern data platform (MDP) leveraging Azure technologies, ensuring robust data governance and assurance, and enabling enterprise-wide access to trustworthy, high-quality insights through SQL-based data warehousing, Synapse, Fabric, and PowerBI.

Please note that internally, this role will be referred to as ‘Senior Data Services Manager’.

Please note this role is based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices.

You’ll help us by:

Defining and championing a forward-looking data strategy aligned with the business's digital transformation and commercial priorities.

Translating business requirements into scalable data service roadmaps, ensuring alignment across product, technology, and analytics teams.

Managing and developing a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts by setting clear goals, fostering technical excellence and ensuring efficient delivery across agile cycles.

Gaining a deep understanding of our on-premises data warehouse built using SSIS and SSRS and incorporate this knowledge to drive the decommissioning and migration strategy as part of the Data Transformation programme.

Selecting and leading the delivery of technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future-proofed data solutions, following good practice analytics architecture development

Owning the architectural design and evolution of the enterprise data platform on Azure (Synapse, Fabric, Data Lake, etc.) as well as the operational DWH.

Ensuring secure, efficient, and scalable data pipelines and integrations between systems using modern best practices.

Overseeing the management and enhancement of SQL data warehouses to meet operational and reporting needs.

Establishing and overseeing data quality standards, assurance frameworks, and compliance practices while ensuring adoption of data governance, assurance and ownership throughout the organisation through a network of data owners and stewards.

Ensuring robust governance of data models, metadata, and data cataloguing for internal and external reporting needs.

Monitoring and optimising Power BI data models and performance, ensuring business teams have access to reliable and timely insights.

Partnering with commercial and operational leads to enable self-serve reporting, data literacy, and data democratisation.

The skills you’ll be sharing with the team:

Degree or equivalent experience in: Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics/Statistics or a closely related discipline.

Proven experience leading data engineering, analytics, or data platform functions in a commercial environment, ideally retail.

Experienced leader, able to provide direction, motivate and inspire teams to support career growth.

Strategic thinker, able to define and communicate a compelling data vision, translate business needs into data strategies, and prioritise accordingly at pace.

Strong ability to guide data engineers and analysts in building scalable, secure, and reliable cloud data platforms, particularly using Azure, Synapse, SQL DWH, and Power BI.

Excellent communication skills, capable of building trust with commercial, technology, and executive stakeholders.

Experience enabling self-serve BI and building strong relationships with business functions using Power BI or similar tools.

Track record of delivery oversight, able to manage projects, allocate resources effectively, and deliver high-quality data services in agile or iterative environments.

Strong problem solver, able to understand complexities, tackle challenges effectively and quickly identify solutions.

Commercial acumen to understand how data impacts business KPIs and how to align technical decisions with commercial outcomes.

Cloud and integration expertise (e.g. Azure Data Lake, Fabric, ADF, Databricks, Logic Apps)

Desirable certifications include: Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate, Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300), Databricks/dbt/Synapse training
