Who we are

It all started with a chance encounter. On a wet August day, Don Chadwick stopped by the General Clothing Stores in Penzance to find a waterproof raincoat. 

The shop sold well-crafted workwear to the town’s fishermen and sailors. Local artists were also among its regular customers, choosing practical jumpsuits and smocks for long days in the studio.

He went in to buy a jacket, but – inspired by what he saw – Don also bought the business.

For 20 years, he and his family sold quality workwear to mariners and artists. When Don passed away in 2001, the business was inherited by his three sons David, Leigh and Neil. With Neil’s wife Sophie – a textile designer – sketching out prints, Seasalt’s contemporary take on creative, coastal style was born.

From early bases in the South West, Seasalt caught the imaginations of shoppers across Britain and beyond. Today, our clothing is sold in over 80 shops from Edinburgh to Penzance, as well as across Europe, North America and further afield. Bringing these Seasalt outposts to life are our people: over 1,300 talented minds working as one team.

However much as Seasalt grows, we stay anchored to the simple principles established in the Chadwick family’s first shop: to create the best quality clothing possible, with care and consideration for those around us.
